June 2008
I have been working with computers and using the internet for many years, over that time i have had several of the viruses we are all concerned about but find it quite easy to get rud of them.
A few days ago i upgraded to a new faster system, I use another system for CCTV recording and thought it would be great to be able to view CCTV recording on other systems, however the CCTV i use does not use a standard video codec and so would not work on Vista Ultimate. So a quick Google and i found the codec i needed, Installed it and away i went.
About 2 hours later i noticed my IE7 browser was opening pop ups even with my popup blocker on.
It slowly became worse and worse so i knew i had a parasite.
I then found i had a new version of the Vundo virus and a Zlob parasite (Malware) on my system
Both got past all my virus checkers
4 days later i have at last got rid of it
Zlob is a nasty little bugger that replicates itself and is a real pain to get rid of.
I ask all my clients to be careful when downloading stuff and keep their virus and adware software right up to date (Serveral times a day if need be) until there are fixes in place.
Getting rid of Zlob could cost more than the system is worth.
You have been warned.
